Did you know that there are over 50 local CIPD Branches in the UK, each covering a different geographical area?
Behind each one sits a team of volunteer CIPD members who help to champion better work and working lives. Working in committees, our branch volunteers give their time to running a programme of developmental, inspirational, networking and learning events for people professionals in their area.
The CIPD Manchester Branch is the largest in the world and we are proud to play our part in serving our area membership and the wider business community across Greater Manchester.
Become a Branch Ambassador and raise your professional profile
If you aspire, one day, to join our committee, becoming a Branch Ambassador is your first step. Branch Ambassadors are volunteers who work alongside our committee, supporting our work and that of the CIPD throughout Greater Manchester.
Branch Ambassadors represent a diverse team at various stages in their professional journey; they provide insight and advice to committee members and contribute to strategic and creative projects. Branch Ambassadors also play an important role in assisting committee members in planning, organising, delivering, and facilitating our events and other branch activity streams.
Becoming a Branch Ambassador has many benefits. Not only does it provide you with an opportunity to promote good practice and actively contribute to shaping the profession (and our branch) it’s also a great way to raise your professional profile, grow your network and give back to the profession – as well as being part of a great team!

We seek dynamic CIPD Members who are familiar with our work and eager to support our branch in various ways.
Being an active member of our volunteer team will enable you to:

We have an Ambassador Lead on our committee who will be your main point of contact and will ensure that you get the most out of your role as an Ambassador.
Minimum requirements for becoming a Branch Ambassador:
- Current CIPD membership (any grade including Student and Foundation Members)
- Resident, studying or working in one of Greater Manchester’s 10 local authorities
- Availability at some early evenings and lunchtimes to support with the running of events
- Ability to collaborate remotely (Zoom / MS Teams)
- Support both online and face to face events in central Manchester
Hear from one of our current Ambassadors
I am Giulia and I am one of the CIPD Manchester Branch Ambassadors, I started my journey with the branch in August 2021. I decided to get more involved with my local CIPD Branch as I wanted to expand my HR network and I wanted to learn and expand my knowledge by actively participating in the events organised by the branch. Since the start of my journey, I had the opportunity to know amazing people from both the HR profession and other sectors. Thanks to the CIPD Manchester Branch I was able to attend the CIPD Annual Conference in November 2021 for the full two days and listen to some amazing and inspiring speakers, as well as meeting lots of HR professionals and sharing our career journey and tips. I enjoy volunteering for the Branch, I have met some lovely people, and I have learnt a lot from each of them, as every committee and ambassador member has a wealth of knowledge and experience willing to share with you and learn about many different aspects of HR that might not be your expertise. I have supported lots of events since 2021 and I have been able to know more about other areas of HR and especially how to make the most out of my CIPD membership. Volunteering for the branch has made me upskill with my communication, social media and writing skills as I actively support the monthly newsletter and I have had the chance to write some interesting articles, and some of them gave me the chance to share my own experiences to help others. Volunteering for the branch can be an amazing experience, it is a great opportunity to develop your communication and HR skills, and have the chance to work with extremely talented and passionate committee branch members who will help you and support you throughout your journey as an Ambassador. How to apply
Branch Ambassador roles are highly sought-after but limited in number. If you’re interested in joining our team and meet the minimum requirements, the first step is to complete our online expression of interest form.Â
We’ll then be in touch to arrange an informal telephone call or virtual meeting to find out a little more about you and so you can ask any questions about the Ambassador role and our Branch. We’ll also discuss what you feel you can bring to the Branch, as well as the skills and experience you would like to develop.
Subject to there being an Ambassador role vacant and a consensus to engage you as a new Ambassador from our committee, we will provide you with an induction to the Branch and our activities, as well as opportunities to meet fellow Ambassadors and committee members. It’s then up to you to get involved in the projects, campaigns and events that will benefit you and make a difference to CIPD members across Greater Manchester and beyond.
