Who we are
We are the largest CIPD local branch in the world, and proud to play our part in serving our area membership and the wider business community across Manchester and its neighbouring regions.
Our committee comprises 15 volunteers of varying ages, areas and levels of expertise, who work hard to develop and produce a programme of activities to meet the needs of people professionals.
What we do
We give our free time to bring people professionals together, putting ideas into practice, and making our voice heard in our communities.
We are committed to providing you with learning at a local level, CPD opportunities and careers support. We also contribute insight on, and engagement with, local enterprise partners, communities and labour market.
Through our activities, we actively support the CIPD’s purpose in championing better work and working lives for the benefit of individuals, business, the economy and society and we strive to make better work, and working lives a reality for all at a local level.
Attending our events enables you to add to your CPD and meet with influential speakers, respected academics and representatives from key organisations and establishments across the north-west and beyond, while connecting with like-minded CIPD members, students and non-members.
Special Interest Groups

Some of our groups are private either operating within a circle of trust or due to the unique nature of the group’s area of interest. Branch Ambassadors are CIPD members interested in local affairs, who contribute to the successful delivery of our programme of activities and who play an essential role in preparing our venues, welcoming delegates, facilitating networking and providing delegates with information on our branch and the wider CIPD offering. We encourage our Ambassadors to embrace new skills, such as curating events and contributing to our social media promotions, campaigns and event coverage. Often, our Ambassadors progress to become members of our committee.
Without the support of our Ambassadors, we’d be lost!
Advantages of becoming an ambassador include:
- Growing your network and credibility
- Assisting event organisers in delivering our programme of activities
- Involvement in consultations on public policy issues
- Participating in branch development days
- Developing new and valuable skills
- Gaining insights by attending committee meetings (by prior arrangement)
We have a total of 20 branch ambassadors actively supporting us throughout each branch year. Ambassador roles are held until the end of the branch year (30 June). Ambassadors are invited to reapply each year to confirm their wish to remain as an Ambassador.
If you are interested in becoming one of our valued branch ambassadors, please email us to request an application form. Our Vice-Chair Samantha will review your application and advise you of any vacancies we may have, or add you to our waiting list.
Programme of Activities 2019-2020
The month of August is relatively quiet, but our programme picks up in September and continues at a regular page throughout the year. Our official digital programme of activities will be published later in September, but until then you can visit our Events page or give our Eventbrite bookings page a FOLLOW to receive an email notification each time we add a new event.
Keeping up to date
We send out a regular newsletter to over 7,000 subscribers, keeping our community up to date on news, events and campaigns as well as CIPD membership benefits and conferences. If you would like to subscribe to our newsletter, visit our showcase page on the main CIPD website, scroll down and complete the subscription fields.
We are active across a number of popuar social media channels, and you can access all our useful links here (including event listings and curations). Search #cipdmcr and #cipdmanchester
